Solar Water Heating
We are an accredited installer of solar thermal water heating systems with a range of options each individually designed to suit your needs. All our systems allow you to capture the inexhaustible energy from the sun. For most households, up to 100% of the household demand for hot water can be met in the summer and typically around 60% averaged over the year. Solar water heating is normally combined with another heating system to ensure demand for hot water can be guaranteed at all times. It can be linked to most heating systems. For householders wanting to upgrade this allows you to take maximum advantage of this renewable source without replacing your current heating system. For new builds you have a wide choice of options including conventional heating, biomass or heat pumps.
We supply a complete package with all parts needed to integrate with your existing heating system or proposed system. Every installation includes easy to operate controls and is designed for automatic running. The installation consists of the solar collectors normally fitted on the roof, the water cylinder or themal store, connecting pipework, temperature sensors, pump with the microprocessor controller and LCD display, expansion vessel.
Solar water heating in your home
Solar water heating panels are designed to convert the sun's radiation into heat. The amount of energy available varies with the location of your property, its orientation and time of year. More energy may be available in the Summer months than you can use and at other times you will need to supplement the solar water heating with the secondary heating source. When the collector temperature reaches the pre-selected temperature the solar controller pumps heated fluid from the solar collector to a heat exchanger coil in the water cylinder to heat the domestic hot water. Your existing water cylinder is replaced by one with two coils - one for solar water heating and the other allows your existing heating to top up the domestic hot water when required.
You can choose different styles of solar water heating collectors including vacuum tube type - offering the highest coversion efficiency available (see image right) and
flat plate type - suitable where more robust collector is preferred but not quite as efficient (see image right)
Solar photovoltaic panels to generate electricity
Photovoltaic panels require only daylight to create electricity. However, the greater the light intensity - the greater the output of electricity. The PV unit automatically feeds solar generated electricity into the grid. Feed in Tariffs (FIT) provide a payment for all units generated and a bonus payment for units exported.
