Heating using heat extracted from the ground around the property is a very efficient, clean, safe and cost effective method of heating which uses the renewable energy stored in the ground and is continually replenished by the sun. By means of simple, reliable heat pump technology this energy can be transferred to any domestic or comercial property to be used for space heating and hot water.
Ground Source Heat pumps are exceptionally efficient compared with fuel burning heating systems and can provide up to 4 times more energy than they consume. When combined with underfloor heating this exceptional efficiency can be maximised to achieve the optimum heating system - one with low running costs and maximum comfort. Using a renewable source literally on your doorstep the heating system has the added benefit of very low carbon impact.
To harness energy from the ground a closed collector loop installed either in one or more vertical boreholes or in horizontal trenches.
Vertical Loop (borehole) option.
If you have a larger property with a higher energy demand or a site with limited external land then installing a vertical ground loop collector in a borehole is the best option. Vertical collector loops are compact and efficient. We will decide actual depth of the boreholes according to the geology of your local area but they will typically be 60-100m.
The horizontal Loop (trench) option.
These are commonly used for properties with sufficient surrounding land that can be dug up to accomodate the the horizontal collector pipes. The trenches are normally dug to a depth of approximately 1.5m to 2m depending on your local ground conditions. Typically the horizontal collector will require an area up to three times the floor area of the property.
Other collection methods used with Heat Pumps.
Heat pumps can be used in other situations to extract heat from larger ponds or lakes - water source heat pumps.
